Jody McLeod April 3rd, 2007

Portland MonthlyKudos to West Linn for making it into the April 2007 issue of Portland Monthly’s picks for the 20 Best Neighborhoods in Portland.

West Linn was placed in the articles’ ‘Family Circles’ sub-category, noting that it is the type of community that has good schools, safe streets and family playgrounds.

Describing it as a ‘tight-knit community set amid abounding natural beauty’, the article points out West Linn’s 23 parks (totaling 655 acres), and the high school’s exceptional graduation rate of 97% as additional attraction factors.

Side notes included in the article:

Family Favorite:
Summer mornings spent browsing the historic Willamette District’s farmers market, followed by afternoons playing at Mary S. Young State Park. (Editorial note–A quibble with the article: The Farmers’ and Artists’ Market, which opens in May, is open only on Wednesdays and only in the afternoon).

You’ll Love It If:
You want an affluent suburb rich in community and open spaces.

The magazine focused primarily on the Portland neighborhoods, touting perennial favorites like the South Waterfront, Pearl, Piedmont, etc. Other suburban communities on the Portland Monthly list included Damascus, North Bethany, Orenco Station, and McMinnville.
